Architecture GL Suite is a three-tier, web-based software application. The user interface requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. Public web sites support a broad range of browsers. GL Suite requires no other client-side software. The user interface, business logic tier and data layer all use Microsoft .Net technology. .Net technology produces a robust, scalable, highly distributed architecture for a fully configurable application. System Requirements Client-Side Basic client requirements include:
Server-Side Agencies may choose to store data and programs on a local server or use GL Suite's hosting services. Agencies with internal network servers and qualified network support may host the entire application on a local intranet. Agencies who do not wish to support a local server can use GL Suite's hosting services to support the application. If your agency chooses to host the application and data on agency-owned and supported servers, you must meet the following general requirements. Call for specific hardware specifications to meet a particular agency environment.
GL Suite supports network load balancing and scaled-out implementations across multiple servers. Installation and Upgrades GL Suite version 4.0 is a browser-based application. No client software is required to be installed. All installations and upgrades take place at one point - on the server. Technician visits to client sites are typically not required. The software is provided with an installation program that installs all of the required software components on the application server. Installations will generally require less than 30 minutes to complete. Full installation instructions are provided with the application. Versioning GL Suite follows well-documented software industry best practices for versioning and releasing new software. Releases are planned in the development schedule, and the various components and database objects include version numbers to prevent versioning conflicts. Routine Database Administration GL Suite provides technical support to agencies with in-house application servers. Technical support covers the application and related software deployment and maintenance including the configuration, setup and training needs during the installation of the software. GL Suite also provides technical support, as needed, to support agency staff and vendors with database administration.
